First thing I ever bought from Made590 were a couple of Threadless tees a few weeks ago. Had recently moved to Sydney from rural South Australia and finally found a brick and mortar store to buy Threadless shirts in without waiting weeks and crossing fingers that it’d actually get here from the US ๐ And why? Easy – Threadless definitely have some pretty neat shirts and so couldn’t pass up picking some up ๐
how exciting…
I bought a sweet tote bag and hummingbird mobile about 2yrs ago for my girlfriends birthday as she loves hummingbirds.
I bought a white bunny with antlers mounted head at the Finders Keepers market in Melbourne. I fell in love with the store the moment I set eyes on it and fully intend to decorate my new flat with everything made590 because why the hell not?
I purchased a set of three babushka tins few of months ago that now take pride of place on my kitchen bench- I get a lot of comments on them when people come over. I just couldn’t resist as they were so different to anything I’d ever seen before!
First item I bought was the cute little love-heart measuring spoons, last year, as a gift for a friend. Cutest store ever! She loved it!
A Japanese fabric Babushka print table lamp two and a half years ago. I’d just moved in down the road and the lamp perfectly complemented the babushka dolls I’d picked up in Poland the year before – the beginning of a major Babushka theme that made590 has been supporting ever since!
My older sister took me shopping for clothes for my first real person job in 2006 – she introduced me to Made590 and I bought a beautiful wrap dress with a grey, black and white geometrical print – which I still wear now!
A really cute little elephant shaped ply wood clock a year ago for my sister’s baby, who turned out to be a girl! I bought it because it was sweet and cute, and I was just so happy to hear they were having their second baby and when you’re an Aunty, you’re allowed to buy presents ‘just because…’
I bought a swallow wrap skirt about a year ago from your site. I still love it to death. So pretty, and so comfy to wear! I get compliments on it all the time.
It was a red A Line surface art skirt. It was probably 2006. It was so long ago I cannot remember exactly. I still have it and wear it. It started a serious addiction to Made one which I have happily feed whenever possible.
my first purchase was in may or june of this year and i bought an adorable little pair of made in japan telephone earrings. so cute! i work in a call centre so i thought they were a great conversation piece that could go everywhere with me that were totally adorable at the same time.
I first bought a baby singlet for a friend’s newborn – divine!
It was a Poketo wallet… I had just read about them online and was wondering the streets of Newtown (as you do) and well there one was…. SO OF COURSE I had to but it.. I still have it.. and use it whenever I can (its not my everyday wallet though)… since then.. MANY MANY purchases have been made.. but I think I will always remember buying that.
Gosh 2 years ago?? Two black Itsu button tops – quickly followed by the Blue tunic top with red babushkas on it. I have since bought oodles more tunic tops with funky designs on them – the owl versions (yes I bought red and black) came to Japan with me recently. Why? The black tops functional enough for work and funky enough for me. The rest… such cool prints!!!
I bought 2 lovely tops. Only meant to buy one but couldn’t decide because they were both so gorgeous!
The first thing I bought was about 4-5years ago, it was a black and white Made590 Japanese print top with cute wooden buttons, I’ve been hooked ever since!
I bought a set of the coolest Snowman Canisters!! Was probably 4 years ago now – Remember them?? they are still my favourite thing I own!!
Yes Lynds and that was the 1st time I had a proper conversation with you! To think if you never bought those canisters then who knows what would have happened?? and they are the best thing ever, I can’t believe I don’t have a set, I do have the Marcel Dzama lamp though! x
Yes that lamp damit ๐ I regret not getting that too!
The 1st thing I purchased was about 6 weeks ago a denim dandelion skirt which I love and have since been back instore to buy two tops which are so cute, I am sure I will be back to your refreshing store one day soon.
My first purchase was a sleeveless Motel top- blue and purple tie- dye (ish)- striped. Remember that one? I bought it over half a decade ago and it is still worn often ๐
Oh yes Michelle I remember, that was the 1st purchase of many, I still remember the 1st time I met you, time has flown by hasn’t it! Hope you are well, christina x
I bought a gorgeous surface art skirt with tree & bird pattern about 18 months ago. I was drawn to the colour & pattern & loved the fact I was supporting local people!
My first purchase was when I bought my three Tasmanian nieces each a pair of earrings for Christmas (Made by White, I think). Now, when they visit Newtown, Made is always on the itinerary. Also, my daughter ‘made’ me buy her loads of Kid Robot breakfast-themed keyrings a few years back – I loved ’em too, mind you!
The first thing I bought was a Surface Art knee length denim skirt with red flowers in the corner. Then I went back two hours later after traversing Newtown and bought a black boat neck yop. It was in late April this year. I don’t really like clothes or clothes shopping so I got quite a shock when I walked in and wanted to buy the whole store! It was the first item of clothing I had bought in a year. I had recently moved to Sydney from Brisbane and was so pleased to find a good place… bought many things until I recently moved back to Brisbane. Lucky for me there’s an online store!
I bought my babushka skirt + more about July this year..I was in desperate need of a new wardrobe. My sister recommended I stop by Made590 as she had never gone in there without finding and buying something she loved. So I walked in at about 2pm knowing I had to pick the kids up from school at 3. I fell in love with everything and walked out with my new wardrobe. Best 45 min shop ever-Awesome sales assistant too. Every time I wear my skirt I have people comment on it. Love it!
I bought an orange bird coat hook which I desperately wanted in black but it was soo cool that I had to have it no matter the colour. It was about 2 years ago and I bought a little tree earring stand for my sister in law too which she loves to death!
hargh it was a delightful necklace of the pale lady with striped stockings!
I loved her because she reminded me of corpse bride crossed with oblina from ‘AHH real monsters’
haha so pretty much my brain was flooded with childhood nostalgia and fond cartoon memories!
i think thats a pretty personal thing when you find something that leaves that kind of fond impression on you.
So pretty much it was madebywhite love from the get-go!
can’t wait to see what you come up with next guys! x x
It was a lovely pink woven surface art skirt, just a few months after having my daughter…who is nearly 6 years old now. Still a big favourite!!
I bought a hinged girl pendant oh so long ago (maybe 2002/3). Still one of my favs ๐
I can’t remember if it was the beautiful green surface art skirt – so perfect in all the right ways (and I remember the lovely lovely person in the shop telling me I might want to go down a size and just about wanting to kiss her!!) OOOORRRR was it the cute as a bunny, little red, bobbly knit cardi with cute as pie little strawberry cloth covered buttons? I can’t believe it’s been 6 years – HAPPY BIRTHDAY Made. You have changed the whole groove of South End King Street. My whole family’s in love with you.
xxx
Thanks for your comment Nicole, its so lovely reading everybody’s 1st purchases, I can’t believe its been 6 years! x
The first thing that I bought from made590 was about four years ago just before Christmas. It was a gorgeous red and white stripes and spots dress. The perfect Christmas party frock!
The first time I went to your shop I was pregnant with my bub and I bought 3 tops and a dress. I remember it was summer and I had nothing to wear, I hate most maternity stuff and nothing I had fit me. I lived in an old bonds singlet and a pair of shorts that I couldnt do up. ugh.
So I bought 4 things and they worked almost the way thru to the end when I was the size of a house!
Only one of the shirts still exists, the rest were worn to death.
In fact I wore it to barefoot bowls on Saturday and someone told me it was cute and wanted to know where I got it ๐
I bought a red woollen top a few months back; it was absolutely imperative that I buy it because it was much too cute. The first time I wore it, my friend’s friend loved it to much that, after I’d left our mutual friend’s house, she insisted that said mutual friend investigate where it had come from so that she could buy one too
I first visited Made590 the week it opened & knew I had discovered something different! My first purchase was two “Scorned by their Mother” 50’s wrap dresses & three of your button front cap sleeve tee’s – one in grey, pink & black! I now live in Melbourne & still buy from Made. On a recent visit back to Sydders we made sure we trekked to Newtown to visit your shop…and bought two prints & some earrings for a friend. Very thankful for the online store!
I stumbled across Made and made my first purchase was back in 2005! I’d just found out that I had to cancel my overseas trip to have an operation and Christina and the girls was so lovely to me that it made my day : )
It was the best retail therapy ever!
I purchased a grey ghost print wrap skirt that is so cute and i still it wear to this day, some cute blue and white pyrex canisters and some spacey looking glass/pink plastic retro coffee cups and I knew that I’d found my new obsession!
Happy Birthday Made! I always look forward to visiting my favourite part of King St xx
monkey magic baby singlet to save for my first (unborn) child, only took 5 years to get it on her! bought it opening night, surrounded by a million Kellly girls and Frank with a sushi platter. congratulations on this milestone and celebrating 6 years of freindship baby! xxx
The first things I bought from Made, in late 2006: A changing season wooden calendar tree and two Japanese leather wallets in gorgeous prints and with concertina coin purses. I gave the purses to my two best friends for Christmas on a trip back to the UK and they’ve had so many compliments, I wish I’d bought one for me, too! Before my most recent trip back in August, I raced into the shop on the morning of my flight after spying the geese measuring cups online, then carefully carried them in my hand luggage from Sydney to Bangkok to London to Edinburgh, where they were welcomed with squeals of delight! A very merry birthday to you, Made x
The first thing I bought was two Made590 tops (one red, one black) the black one has black sparrow buttons, and the red one has puzzle piece buttons…. I was so amazed that I found a small boutique styled shop in newtown that made clothes in my size that I haven’t stopped buying stuff at Made590 since.
I believe I bought the tops about 2 years ago, and I don’t think a single week has gone by since where I haven’t worn either the black or the red one… I don’t think I’ve ever not worn them long enough to hang them up!
I have never bought anything from Made but I have just found out about Made and now I am so interested
A silky patterned blouse, from the Made590 brand.
It was about 3 years ago and my first time in the shop. It was love at first sight and had to take a piece of the loveliness home with me!
the first thing i brought from made 590 was a gorgeous set of little red riding hood lunch boxes that have pride of place in my kitchen, I have so many more things now but they are still my favourite xx
Happy Birthday… Newtown (as well as my kitchen and my blog feed) wouldn’t be the same without you xxxx
The first thing I bought from Made was a red tee with a white Bertoia wire diamond chair design. Must’ve been about 2004ish…? I love that shirt, and wear it all the time even still. That was when I first came to realise my obsession with designer chairs! Thank you ๐
My sister introduced me to Made590. She bought me heaps of gifts from there before I was finally able to make it there myself. Now it’s one of my favourite stores and I spend way too much money there. Sometimes my entire outfit is made by Made590.
The first shop I ever did at Made, as I have yet to walk in and buy only one thing, was possibly around last Christmas. I bought a few brooches for gifts to myself and others, a gingerbread house mug & sweet 3D calendar for a friend. I might’ve also bought a Made590 white top with black cats printed on it. It is a shopping frenzy blur.
Happy Birthday! I’ll come in and buy myself some presents to help you celebrate.
I have your wonderful babushka teapot – my friend bought it for my birthday, so I hope this still counts!!!! I love love love it! I am coveting that lovely wee red babushka skirt too but I cant get into your store as I’m in Melbourne. It was in August this year. Happy Birthday to you ๐
